John Hoiland was born in 1927.
He still works the ranch
his family has owned
since coming from Norway
at the turn of the century.

John's always been a bachelor.
It's just he and Nippy, his dog,
on the West Boulder River
in Southcentral Montana.

John is also a fine
mechanic and musician.
He fixes old trucks,
tractors, and accordians.
Sometimes, at day's end,
he picks up an accordian
and plays: John and Nippy 56K (5:08)
